I'm Jennipher, the Founder and Lead Tutor of Synapse Tutors. I started teaching in the 90's (yep, I'm that old) and have specialized in special education with a focus on foundational Literacy & Math for the past 15 years. During the pandemic, I began tutoring online for tutoring companies that were paying me a small fraction of what they were charging families, and at first I was just glad to not be in a classroom. However, two injustices in the education world that have gnawed at me for years are that 1) educators are undervalued and underpaid and 2) quality, individualized tutoring is inaccessible to students whose families are not wealthy. After complaining about these issues for too long, it finally occurred to me that I could do something about it.

In addition to being a teacher, tutor, and program coordinator, I have worked in school administration as Admissions Director at two schools, have served in leadership positions on nonprofit boards, have lived, worked, and traveled internationally, have helped businesses with online marketing, and had a 4-year stint as a website developer. I realized that I could use my combined skills to build a tutoring company that significantly reduces overhead costs by doing most of the administrative and operational work myself instead of outsourcing it, making tutoring more affordable for families without sacrificing what tutors are paid for their hard work. It's been a challenge getting this thing off the ground, but Synapse Tutors is the realization of that dream. My commitment to you as a tutor is honesty, transparency, and ongoing support.
